Unter dem exotischen Namen Roland Alphonso schrieb er jamaikanische Musik-Geschichte als einer der führenden Instrumentalisten der Insel. Sein Saxophon- und Flötenspiel wurde bekannt, als er bei der Mid-Sixties Band Skatalites spielte. Zuvor jedoch nahm er in den Jahren 1960-1962 zahlreiche Singles auf, die auf der ersten CD dieser Compilation zu hören sind, während auf der 2. CD Aufnahmen mit der Cecil Lloyd Group sind. Dass er ein Meister seiner Instrumente war hört man auf Songs wie „Bridge View“, „Green Eyes“ und „Sometimes I Am Happy“.
